Job Description

Aviagen is the world’s leading poultry science company, developing pedigree lines for the production of broiler chickens and turkeys. The UK business is located near Edinburgh with several wholly owned operations and joint ventures worldwide.

Hatching GGP & GP chicks in our modern hatchery located near Rugby, Warwickshire and reporting to the Head of GGP, we are seeking a Hatchery Manager. This role will have full operational responsibility to plan, organise and control the day-to-day activities of the hatching and delivery of day old chicks to match customer orders to agreed quality standards and within a bio-secure environment.

You will have experience of operating at a senior level preferably within a commercial poultry hatchery and be able to demonstrate excellent analytical and problem solving skills as well as the ability to manage and develop a large team of skilled individuals. This role will also require the ability to manage this technically complex operation within agreed budgets to the highest standards of quality, bio-security and accuracy of data collection.

Day to day activities would include but are not limited to:

  • Manage and coordinate hatchery activities
  • Oversee quality assurance program
  • Monitor facility equipment and repairs
  • Oversee hatchery sanitation
  • Oversee the hatchery vaccination processes
  • Keep current knowledge of industry trends
  • Manage animal welfare program
  • Plan and oversee hatchery budget
  • Comply with all company policies and animal welfare guidelines
  • Manage chick care, maintenance, packing and transfer activities
  • Manage and maintain weekly hatch schedules
  • Direct supervision of employees

To be considered for this opportunity ideally you will have a Bachelor's degree in animal science or NVQ 3 in Poultry Agricultural qualification.
